Lindsay Brand has numerous medical conditions that cause vertigo, unsteady gait & epilepsy. As the Family car is no longer road worthy, Lindsay’s medical conditions made it very difficult to use public transport, which is often required for medical appointments.
WA Charity Direct provided funding to assist with the purchase of a second hand vehicle. Having access to a reliable family vehicle has now allowed Lindsay’s carer to drive Lindsay to all his medical appointments and Community commitments.
William Murphy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis several years ago. Over time, William’s condition has deteriorated confining him to a wheelchair and requiring full time assistance.
On referral by The Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA (MSWA), WA Charity Direct has assisted by providing funds to complete home modifications. The home can now accommodate the wheelchair and has made everyday living more comfortable for William and his Family.
Members of WA Charity Direct voted to provide funding for research into Mesothelioma. The National Centre of Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) is conducting gene sequencing research with the aim to identify the main component for a potential vaccine for Mesothelioma patients. WA Charity Direct’s donation, along with other contributors, will go directly towards the research that will be conducted on 30 patients.
Erin King was only recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In that short time, Erin’s condition has deteriorated rapidly to full reliance on an electric wheelchair. As a result the Family’s sedan vehicle was no longer suitable. WA Charity Direct provided the bulk of the funds for the King Family to purchase a second hand wheelchair accessible caddy. This vehicle ensures Erin can get safely to her medical appointments and greater community involvement.
Through a series of bad decisions, a young man with little support quickly found himself in deep financial trouble. His deteriorating financial situation, often left him for weeks with no money and consequently little food.
Fortunately, with the assistance from DSC and support agency One 2 One, the young man is now receiving support with financial management, mentoring and living in affordable group housing. WA Charity Direct assisted on this journey by paying a few weeks rent to help alleviate some of the financial pressure
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA (MSWA), referred a client’s request to WA Charity Direct for home modifications. This lady has been living with MS from a young age and is now high care and requires 24 hour assistance from her family carer.
To ensure living at home remains viable, WA Charity Direct funded wheelchair access modifications. The home modifications has led to a better quality of life due to access to the family areas and the rear garden.
Beau Potter was diagnosed at birth with Distal Arthrogryposis, which is weakness of the lower limbs. This condition has led Beau to become fully dependant on a manual wheelchair.
To help with the differing terrains, WA Charity Direct funded a free wheel attachment for the wheelchair. This attachment allows Beau to manoeuvre his chair across all surfaces in particular grassed areas.
