Little Cian Bailey is truly a living miracle. Cian was born premature at 27 weeks in 2007 and whilst in hospital contracted rare infections which devastated 75% of his brain. Cian’s medical prognosis was not good and little hope was offered for his future.
Cian is now 5 years old and is a happy, beautiful boy. Cian has high level specialised needs and is completely dependant on his parents for his care; however Cian has recently begun school on a part time basis.
WA Charity Direct have helped Cian and his family out by providing the bulk of the funds required to purchase a special purpose vehicle. The new vehicle allows for Cian to be transported comfortably and securely whilst sitting in his wheelchair, as well as plenty of space for all the necessary equipment that is required. The new car has also provided much physical relief to his parents as they now no longer have to deal with collapsing the wheelchair and transferring Cian in and out of the car on each visit.
Future Living Trust (formerly Hawkevale Tust) is a charitable organisation recognised for the provision of valuable services in the disability field, supporting and upholding the rights and interests of people with intellectual disabilities when the parents are no longer able to do so. It assists families in creating a long-term plan for an adult child with a disability, and delivers future services in support of that plan including individualised accommodation, financial assistance, advocacy and visiting services to ensure an overall quality of life.
WA Charity Direct assisted Future Living Trust to provide lifelong visiting and advocacy services for 3 families in 2009 who would otherwise be unable to afford a service for their child with an intellectual disability. The feedback received from the assisted families has been overwhelmingly positive. Being able to have a service like this gave these elderly parents a great peace of mind knowing that Future Living Trust would always be there to look for their child’s welfare once they no longer able.
In 2012, WA Charity Direct agreed to fund a 4th grant for another Western Australian family.

Stacey Davies was in her early 30’s when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As her symptoms progressed, Stacey was no longer able to continue working and has also moved back into her parent’s home for the daily support she now requires. Stacey had been using a manual wheelchair, but this had become increasingly difficult over time.
WA Charity Direct provided the gap payment to allow Stacey to purchase an electric wheelchair. The new wheelchair has given Stacey back her independence and has allowed Stacey to re engage with the community once again.
